3-star hotels in Old Town
Fifteen 3-star stays inside Dubrovnik's walled city, from Baroque palazzi to simple rooms off the side alleys. This shortlist is for travellers who want to sleep within the Stari Grad walls and are happy to trade lifts and parking for stone streets and an early-morning city.
Staying in Old Town
Old Town is the walled city itself: polished limestone, Baroque churches, and a cruise-ship crush from 10am to 4pm that you learn to dodge. Inside the walls it is roughly 300 metres wide and you can walk it end to end in eight minutes — compactness that is both the appeal and the problem. Come at 7am or after 8pm and the same streets are a different city, with swifts overhead and the Stradun nearly empty.
These fifteen 3-star properties all sit on streets named in their addresses within the Old Town: Dinka Ranjine, Ulica Od Pustijerne, Nikole Božidarevića, Ulica Peline, Zudioska, Ribarnica, Svete Marije, Resticeva and the lanes around Srednji Kono and Naljeskoviceva. Most are rooms, studios or apartments in old palazzi rather than full-service hotels, often on upper floors reached by stairs. That suits couples and solo travellers who like walking cities for two or three nights. Families with strollers should think twice — nearly every side street off the Stradun is a flight of stone stairs.

Getting there and around
Cruise ships dock in Gruž from 7am, and passengers reach the Old Town between 9:30am and 4pm, which shapes how the streets feel through the day. Within the walls everything is on foot: the compact grid is roughly 300 metres wide and crosses end to end in eight minutes. Flat routes are limited to the Stradun spine and the harbour promenade near Ploče Gate; nearly every side street off the Stradun is a flight of stone stairs. If you arrive with a car, note the site's own advice that parking and lifts belong to Pile or Lapad rather than here.
When to go
Go for the early morning and the late evening rather than the middle of the day. Ships dock in Gruž from 7am and passengers hit the Old Town between 9:30am and 4pm, so walk the walls at 8am and eat lunch at 3pm. Between May and September the Stradun turns into a slow river of day-trippers by 11am. After 8pm the day-trippers are back on their ships and the Stradun empties; restaurants on Za Rokom and behind the Franciscan monastery fill from 8pm, and booking ahead in July and August saves a queue on the step.

Questions, answered
Where exactly are these hotels?
All fifteen are 3-star properties with addresses inside Dubrovnik's Old Town, on streets such as Dinka Ranjine, Ulica Od Pustijerne, Nikole Božidarevića, Zudioska, Ribarnica and Resticeva. The walled city is roughly 300 metres wide, so wherever you stay the Stradun is a short walk away.
Which has the best guest score?
Rooms Eden Old Town 3 scores 4.9 out of 5 from 23 reviews, the highest on this list. Rilati Old Town Palace follows at 4.6 from 68 reviews, and Old Town Baroque Palace Accommodation at 4.2 from 9 reviews.
Are these good for families?
Some are. Old Town Port Apartments and Blue Symphony Old Town both list family rooms, and the Port Apartments add a cot. The site's own warning stands, though: nearly every side street off the Stradun is a flight of stone stairs, so strollers are hard work.
Is there parking at any of them?
Old Town Baroque Palace Accommodation and Apartments Minceta Old Town both list parking, and Old Town Economy Apartments lists parking with a surcharge. Villa Vesna Old Town offers free car parking and a garage, though its address is on Masarykov Put rather than inside the walls.
Will it be noisy?
The site advises skipping the Old Town if you need silence before midnight in July, when the streets stay busy late. The upside is the early morning: come 7am the same lanes are quiet, with swifts overhead and cats on doorsteps.
Do the rooms have air conditioning?
Most do: Rilati Old Town Palace, Rooms Eden Old Town 3, Old Town Ivona Rooms, House Katarina Old town, Pavisa Old town rooms, Blue Symphony Old Town, Apartments Minceta Old Town and Budget Old Town all list it. The site notes that some Old Town air conditioning is a wall unit rather than central.
How long should I stay?
The site recommends two or three nights rather than a full week, since the novelty of stairs and suitcase-hauling wears off around day four. Solo travellers and couples who like walking cities do best here.
Do I need a lift?
Most stays in the Old Town are third-floor walk-ups in old palazzi. On this list only Rina Old Town lists a lift; the site suggests looking at Pile or Lapad if a lift is essential.
