Getting there and around
It's 20 minutes on the bus, which is fine for a day or two but tiring if you want to be in the walled city every evening. Better as a beach-first, walls-once base. The coastal walking path around the peninsula runs about 5km, and the Babin Kuk sunset circuit — Copacabana, then Cava and Coral coves, round the western tip at Sunset Beach, back inland through the pine forest past the chapel of Sveti Križ — ends at the Iva Dulčića bus stop for line 6 back to Pile. Allow 60-75 minutes at an easy pace, longer with a swim stop at Cava or Coral; the path is shaded most of the way, with a few uneven pebble stretches near the tip.
When to go
Babin Kuk is a beach-first base, so the choice comes down to how much time you want on the pebbles at Copacabana, Cava and Coral rather than in the walled city. The west side of the headland is where sunsets over Daksa island and Koločep are the best in Dubrovnik proper, and the pine cover along the 5km coastal path keeps the walk in shade even in high summer. The path has a few uneven pebble stretches near the tip, so plan the sunset circuit for daylight and take the swim stops while the light holds.
