4-star hotels in Old Town
A shortlist of 4-star stays inside Dubrovnik's walled Old Town, from palazzo apartments to a garden house and a villa with a pool.
Staying in Old Town
Old Town is the walled city itself: polished limestone, Baroque churches and a cruise-ship crush from 10am to 4pm that you learn to dodge. Inside the walls it is roughly 300 metres wide and you can walk it end to end in eight minutes — compactness that is both the appeal and the problem, since between May and September the Stradun turns into a slow river of day-trippers. Come at 7am or after 8pm and the same streets are a different city: swifts overhead, cats on doorsteps, a cellist practising near St Blaise.
The hotels here sit on the lanes within those walls — Palmotićeva, Prijeko, Kunićeva, Boškovićeva, Žudioska, Dropčeva, Antuninska, Zamanjina, Zvijezdićeva and Ulica od Domina all run off or near the Stradun and the Jesuit quarter, while a few addresses climb the slopes just above the city. Most stays are third-floor walk-ups in old palazzi, so couples and solo travellers who like walking cities do best, ideally for two or three nights; families should note that nearly every side street off the Stradun is a flight of stone stairs. Anyone needing parking, a lift or a 3am reception desk should look at Pile or Lapad instead.

Getting there and around
Ships dock in Gruž from 7am, and passengers reach the Old Town between 9:30am and 4pm. Inside the walls the city is roughly 300 metres wide and walkable end to end in eight minutes; the only flat routes run the spine of the Stradun itself and the harbour promenade near Ploče Gate, so side streets off it are stairs. Enter from Pile Gate or Ploče Gate, and plan around the cruise-ship window rather than against it.
When to go
Go for the hours rather than the month: walk the walls at 8am, eat lunch at 3pm, and come back out after 8pm when the day-trippers are back on their ships and the Stradun empties into something closer to a stage set — waiters resetting tables outside Gradska Kavana, the Bell Tower clock striking. Between May and September the Stradun is a slow river of visitors from morning until late afternoon, and July and August bring queues at restaurants on Za Rokom and behind the Franciscan monastery unless you book.

Questions, answered
Are these hotels inside the Old Town walls?
Yes. Every address on this list names the Old Town or a lane within it, from Palmotićeva 2 and Prijeko 15 to Zamanjina Ulica 12 and Ulica od Domina 6.
Do the hotels have lifts?
The data does not list a lift for these properties, and most stays in the Old Town are third-floor walk-ups in old palazzi. If a lift is essential, the site suggests looking at Pile or Lapad instead.
Is the Old Town good for families with young children?
Think twice with a stroller: nearly every side street off the Stradun is a flight of stone stairs, and the flat routes are the Stradun spine and the harbour promenade near Ploče Gate. Old Town House With Lush Private Garden does offer family rooms and babysitting service.
Which hotels here have outdoor space?
Penthouse the Best Old Town View and Dubrovnik Seaview apartment 10 min to the Old Town both have balconies. Old Town House With Lush Private Garden, Old Town Garden Apartments and Villa Filia 4 Bedrooms all list a garden, and the villa adds an outdoor pool.
Can I park at these hotels?
Only Sensational Dubrovnik Villa Villa Filia 4 Bedrooms Overlooking Dubrovnik City Walls Old Town lists parking and a garage. For the rest, the site advises travellers who need parking to look outside the walls.
How long should I stay in the Old Town?
Two or three nights rather than a full week — the site notes the novelty of stairs and suitcase-hauling wears off around day four. That is enough for the walls, the back lanes from Pile to Ploče and an evening on an emptied Stradun.
When is the Old Town quietest?
Early morning and late evening. Cruise passengers hit the Old Town between 9:30am and 4pm, so 7am and after 8pm give you the same streets with swifts overhead and cats on doorsteps.
Do any of these properties have a pool?
Sensational Dubrovnik Villa Villa Filia 4 Bedrooms Overlooking Dubrovnik City Walls Old Town lists an outdoor pool and a swimming pool. No other hotel on this list has one.
