Dubrovnik Airport to the Old Town & Lapad

Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) sits near Čilipi, about 20 km southeast of the Old Town — roughly a 30–45 minute drive depending on traffic and cruise-day congestion. There is no train; your options are the airport shuttle bus, a taxi or ride-hail, or a pre-booked transfer. Here is how each works.

Airport shuttle bus — the easy default

A scheduled airport bus meets arriving flights and runs to the city, typically stopping near the Pile Gate (for the Old Town) and continuing to the Gruž bus and ferry terminal. It is the cheapest comfortable option and needs no booking — buy a ticket at the airport or on board. Journey time is around 30–40 minutes to Pile. For the return, buses depart from the main bus station in Gruž ahead of flight waves, so allow buffer time.

Taxi & ride-hail

Taxis wait outside arrivals, and app-based services such as Uber and Bolt operate in Dubrovnik, often at similar or lower prices. A taxi takes you door to door — useful for Lapad and Babin Kuk hotels that the shuttle does not reach directly, or if you land late. Agree the fare or confirm the app price before setting off.

Private & hotel transfers

Pre-booked private transfers cost more than the bus but remove all guesswork: a driver meets you by name and drives straight to your door. Worth it for families with luggage, early or late flights, or groups where the per-person cost evens out.

Getting to Lapad and Babin Kuk

The shuttle drops at Pile and Gruž rather than inside Lapad, so for a Lapad or Babin Kuk hotel either take a taxi from the airport, or ride the shuttle to Gruž and change to a local bus for the last stretch. With heavy bags, a taxi or transfer is usually worth the extra.
