Bus 15 runs every 40 minutes and takes 25 minutes to Pile, with the last bus back at 10:30pm. Zaton is 9km north of Dubrovnik and 15 minutes on the bus to Pile; staying here is easier and quieter than a Dubrovnik suburb and closer than Cavtat. Within the bay, a shore walk from Zaton Veliki's small harbour west past the Ragusan summer villas and the church of Sv. Nikola, around the northern shore past the chapel of Sv. Rok, into Zaton Mali takes roughly 40 minutes at an easy pace.
When to go
The site describes Zaton as a summer place: kids swimming off stone piers, grandmothers gutting fish on the pavement, dinner ending by 10pm, and evenings spent outside watching the light go off the water.
