Poreč layers Roman street layout, Byzantine mosaics and Venetian and Austro-Hungarian influence into a compact old town on a peninsula, with the Euphrasian Basilica and its 6th-century mosaics at its heart. When to go

May to September is the best window, when the weather is warm and the Adriatic is suitable for swimming. July and August are the busiest and hottest months, with numerous festivals and events. May, June and September bring pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds, which suits exploring the town and nearby Istrian attractions. Outside that stretch the beaches and resort areas are quieter, and the old town's basilica and Roman streets can be seen without summer queues.
