About Tar

Historically, this part of Istria has been shaped by Venetian, Austrian and Italian influences, which are visible in the architecture and place names of nearby towns such as Poreč, Novigrad and Rovinj. Poreč, about 10 kilometres south, has a UNESCO-listed Euphrasian Basilica and a busy harbour, while the inland hill towns offer a different, more rural side of the region.

Visitors come to Tar mainly for the coast and the campsites and resorts that line the shore around Lanterna. The area is well connected by road to the rest of Istria, making it a practical base for exploring the peninsula, from the beaches of Poreč to the vineyards and hill villages inland. The accommodation mix ranges from large resort complexes to private villas and apartments.
