Podstrana is a coastal municipality on the Adriatic, about 10 kilometers southeast of Split along the D8 state road. Its pebble beaches, including Strožanac and Mutogras, are used for swimming and water sports, and the old village around the church of St. Martin, the Roman villa rustica site and the coastal promenade give the place its character. The Mosor mountains behind offer hiking. For visitors it works as a quieter seaside base with Split within reach by regular bus.

Regular bus lines connect Podstrana with Split and Omiš, running along the coast, and the nearest train station is in Split. For getting around, local buses and taxis are available, but walking along the coastal promenade is a good way to reach beaches and restaurants.

When to go

The best time to visit Podstrana is from May to October, when the sea is warm enough for swimming and the weather is sunny. July and August are the busiest and hottest months, with temperatures often above 30°C. May, June, September and October offer milder conditions and fewer crowds, ideal for exploring the area and nearby Split. Winter months are cooler and wetter, with limited tourist facilities open.
