5-star hotels in Labin

Labin is a hill town in Istria whose old town, the Stari Grad, is a compact knot of stone buildings, galleries and restaurants, with steep streets that reward walking. Rabac, about 3 kilometres away, is the municipality's seaside resort, known for beaches and a promenade. The lower new town carries the shops and everyday services, and the surrounding countryside is dotted with small villages.

These five-star properties are all self-contained houses and apartments rather than staffed hotels, and most sit in the villages and hamlets outside the centre: Katuri, Breg Ivanovci, Marceljani, Sveti Bartol, Marici, Ripenda Kras and Snašići all appear in the addresses, at distances from 1.3 to 6.3 kilometres from the centre. Only one, Luxury Residence Istra Fortuna on Ulica Slobode, is in Labin itself. The setup suits couples and families who want space, a pool and a kitchen, and who plan to drive; several places welcome pets, and a few lie close enough to the coast to be handy for beach days.

Getting there and around

Labin is reached by car via the Istrian motorway, the Istarski ipsilon, with exits at Pazin or Rogovići. The nearest international airport is Pula, about 40 kilometres away. Buses connect Labin with Pula, Rijeka and Zagreb, and from Dubrovnik it is a long drive or bus journey, often with a transfer in Split or Rijeka. Local buses run between Labin and Rabac. In Labin the old town is compact and walkable, though the steep streets may be challenging for some, and parking is available outside the old town. For the wider region, and for these villas in the surrounding villages, a car is recommended.

When to go

May to September is when Labin works best, with weather warm enough for both sightseeing and the beaches at Rabac. July and August are the busiest and hottest months. Spring and early autumn bring milder temperatures and fewer crowds, which suits exploring the old town and the surrounding countryside, and makes a pool villa in one of the outlying hamlets a comfortable base. Winter can be cool and rainy, though cultural events and indoor attractions remain available.
