Žminj is not a typical tourist resort. It is a working Istrian town whose appeal lies in what surrounds it: rolling hills, vineyards and oak forests, olive oil and wine producers, and the truffles the region is known for. The coast near Rovinj and Pula is easily reachable by car, so days can mix inland cycling, hiking and horseback riding with time by the sea. The town centre has shops, cafes and a parish church, and summer brings the Žminj Cultural Summer concerts and theatre. These villas are not in the town itself but in the hamlets around it: Prkačini, Pifari and Sandari to the west and south, Sivati to the north, Naselje Muzini and Folici closer in, between 1.4 and 4.3 kilometres from the centre. That means countryside quiet, private pools, gardens and terraces, and a car needed for everything.

Getting there and around

Žminj is best reached by car. It lies on the road between Rovinj and Pazin, about 15 kilometres from Rovinj and 20 kilometres from Pula. The nearest airports are Pula Airport, approximately 30 kilometres away, and Rijeka Airport on Krk, about 80 kilometres away. There is no railway station in Žminj; the nearest train connections are in Pula and Pazin. Buses connect Žminj with Rovinj, Pula and Pazin, but services are limited, especially at weekends. Having a car is recommended for exploring the area and reaching the coast.

When to go

The best time to visit Žminj is from May to September, when the weather is warm and dry. July and August are the hottest and busiest months, especially along the coast, but inland Žminj remains relatively quiet. Spring and early autumn offer mild temperatures, ideal for cycling and hiking, and are also the seasons for local food festivals and harvest events. Winter is cool and quiet, with fewer amenities open.
