Imotski is the cultural and economic centre of the Imotska krajina region, known for its vineyards and its produce, especially grapes and figs. Visitors come for the lakes, walks in the surrounding hills and historical sights such as the Franciscan monastery and the church of St. Francis. The town also sits close enough to the Adriatic to work as a stop between the coast and the interior.

Getting around Imotski is easiest by car, though the town centre is walkable. Local buses and taxis are available for shorter trips, and every hotel on this list has free car parking.

When to go

The best time to visit Imotski is from May to September, when the weather is warm and the Blue Lake is often filled with water, allowing for swimming and other activities. Spring and autumn are also pleasant, with milder temperatures and fewer crowds. Winter can be cold and rainy, and the Red Lake is best viewed from above due to its steep sides.
