What to expect at Fort Revelin

Revelin sits just outside the Ploče Gate on the eastern flank of the Old Town, a massive irregular pentagon of stone completed in 1549 after 11 years of construction that was so demanding the government banned all other building work in the city until it was done. Its purpose was singular: defend the Old Port and the landward approach from the east. The fort was engineered to be indestructible — and in the 1667 earthquake, while much of the city collapsed, Revelin held so well it became the temporary government seat and treasury.

Today Revelin functions primarily as an events venue and archaeological exhibition space. The stone hall inside is enormous, and by night it turns into Culture Club Revelin, one of the Adriatic's most striking nightclubs. By day you can climb to the terrace for a rare eastward view of the port, the walls, and Mount Srđ rising behind. Combine it with a short walk to the Ploče Gate and the eastern stretch of walls for a natural half-day.
